Alexandra Wood

Alexandra Wood began her dance training at the age of 8 under the guidance of Marka Danielle and Terry Ellen Shields. After many years of refining her technique with Ms. Shields, she joined the Pittsburgh Ballet Theatre’s School upon invitation at the summer intensive, at the age of 15. During her time at the school she was constantly immersed in the professional world of dance, through her participation in the Nutcracker with company members, as well as with the numerous outreach programs she participated in.

While at PBT School, Ms. Wood was under the direction of Janet Popeleski. After two years at the school, she returned home to focus on her training, eventually leading her to the Dance Conservatory of Charleston, where she enrolled in the PreProfessional Half-Day program and received countless opportunities to work with highly acclaimed guest instructors while becoming more familiar with the Balanchine Technique. She received scholarship opportunities to join the Miami City Ballet School Pre-Pro Division, as well as Austin Ballet’s Pre Professional program. Miss Wood attended multiple summer intensives at the American Ballet Theatre in New York, Pittsburgh Ballet Theatre, and The Richmond Ballet on scholarship.

Ms. Wood has performed principal roles in excerpts from Don Quixoté as Kitri, La Bayadère as Nikiya, Aurora in Sleeping Beauty and the title role in Giselle. She has had the privilege of performing Snowflakes from George Balanchine’s The Nutcracker®. Ms. Wood has also had experience in participating in the prestigious Youth American Grand Prix competition.

Ms. Wood holds a BA in Business Administration from the College of Charleston, for which she attended on scholarship. At CofC, she furthered her knowledge of health and wellness taking classes in kinesiology. She still continues to explore her artistic side as she currently participates in advanced ballet classes, pilates lessons, and intense barre class workouts, as she finds the balance between strength and focus vital to ballet. Alexandra is so excited for the opportunity to help other young dancers succeed in following their dreams, no matter the path!
