Mommy & Me Summer Sessions

Spend quality time with your little one in our six-week Mommy & Me summer session!

Designed for ages 18 months to 3-years with a parent/guardian, this class is the perfect way to introduce creative movement and ballet vocabulary in a fun, safe and stimulating environment made specifically for tiny dancers!

Dates: Saturdays, 6/10-6/24 & 7/8-7/22
9:30a-10:00a

Tuition of $65 due at the time of registration.

Beginner Ballet Summer Sessions

Keep your little ones happy and on their toes this summer with a fun introduction to dance for ages 3-5. This class is designed to focus on rhythm, basic motor skills, coordination activities and creative movement.

Dates: Saturdays, 6/10-6/24 & 7/8-7/22
10:00a-10:30a

Tuition of $65 due at the time of registration.

Once Upon a Time Summer Camps

Keep your little ones happy and on their toes with our ballet and tap themed Summer Youth Camps! Open to young dancers ages 3-5.

Each camp runs 9:00a-11:00am and includes a pre-ballet and tap class, crafts, story-time and a snack.

Tuition is $160 per week due at time of registration.

6/26 – 6/30 Moana

Help your young dancer see how far they'll go and ride the wave of creativity with Moana and Maui!

7/24 – 7/28 The Nutcracker

Take a break from the summer heat dancing through this winter classic!

7/31 – 8/04 Frozen

Cool off in the studio and find your inner-Olaf and Elsa as summer winds to a close!

Join the Lunch Bunch and stay until 12:00pm for just $25 a week.

Send your dancer with a packed lunch and keep the fun going with another hour of movies and dance games!

GAVIN LARSEN RESIDENCY // We are extremely excited to welcome author and former Oregon Ballet Theatre principal Gavin Larsen to DCC next week for a Residency with our Advanced Division dancers! GAVIN LARSEN RESIDENCY September 18-20 | DCC Levels 5 & PrePro Currently a faculty member with the Ballet Conservatory of Asheville, Ms. Larsen is a contributor for some of dance’s largest publications--including Pointe, Dance Teacher & Dance Spirit--and the author of her 2021 memoir, Being a Ballerina: The Power and Perfection of a Dancing Life. In addition to her time with Oregon Ballet Theatre, Ms. Larsen danced as a soloist with the Suzanne Farrell Ballet, as well as Pacific Northwest Ballet and Alberta Ballet. After attending this year’s Summer & Choreographic Intensives, Lauren was invited to stay for the Winter Term and we are incredibly proud of the hard work and dedication she has put into preparing for this next big step in her training! NUTCRACKER 2023 // We are thrilled to announce New York City Ballet principal Chun Wai Chan will be joining us as Cavalier & Snow King for this years Nutcracker! @chunner was recently included in Forbes “30 under 30” in China and featured on the cover of Dance Magazine in addition to performing with NYCB & around the globe! We are extremely honored to have such an incredible Guest Artist with us this Nutcracker season, and to share this fantastic performance opportunity with the Charleston community! Read more about Mr. Chan below and register by 9/1/23 to participate in our 7th annual production of The Nutcracker! Mr. Chan was born in Guangdong, China, in 1992 and trained at the Guangzhou Art School from 2004 to 2010. In 2010 he was finalist at the Prix de Lausanne, Switzerland, which earned him a full scholarship to study with Houston Ballet Academy. Chan joined the corps de ballet of Houston Ballet in 2012 and was promoted to principal dancer in 2017. In 2020, Chan was among the finalists of Hunan TVs Dance Smash. Chan joined NYCB as a soloist in 2021 and was promoted to principal dancer the following year, making him the companys first Chinese principal since its founding in 1938. Most recently, Forbes China included Chan in their “30 under 30” list and he was featured on the cover of Dance magazine (May 2023 issue). CHOREOGRAPHY CREATION CAMP // That’s a wrap on our 5th annual Choreography Creation Camp presented in partnership with the Charleston Gaillard Center! We had so much fun creating dances, analyzing choreography and performing our own creative work! Learn more about this incredible camp below, and thank you to the @gaillardcenter for hosting and partnering with us on this truly one of a kind experience for young dancers! Over five days campers learned about the improvisation, the choreographic process and different choreographic tools. We studied choreographers from different generations in a variety of genres, analyzed their choreographic process and explored those themes in their own solo phrases and group work. By the end of the week we had a unique, group work created entirely by the campers, and we loved watching them perform their own world premiere piece, A Flicker in the Dark! ADULT BALLET SUMMER SESSION Thursdays, 7/20-7/27 | 6:00-7:30pm Intermediate & Intermediate/Advanced $25 Drop in Rate Joanne Rupinskas began dancing at an early age in the Boston area training primarily at the Marblehead (MA) School of Ballet and at Boston Ballet, as well with David Howard and Joffrey Ballet in New York. Ms. Rupinskas danced for ten years with the North Shore Civic Ballet, dancing works from both the classical and modern repertoire, and later became an instructor with the company.
