A Dance Class for Every Experience Level
The Dance Conservatory of Charleston offers several levels of Jazz, Tap, Hip Hop, and Modern classes, from beginner classes to advanced.

JAZZ
PRIMARY JAZZ 1
At the Beginner level, dancers will continue to enhance their basic exercises and dance skills while introducing new techniques. Musicality and speed will be two dance elements we will start to work on through the year to prepare them for the next level.
JAZZ
ADVANCED JAZZ 3
At the Advanced level, dancers will not only learn exercises to strengthen their bodies but also, they will have the opportunity to enhance their own choreography skills and techniques. Throughout the year, they will also be exposed to all different forms of jazz including Broadway, Contemporary and Commercial Dance. We value the importance of versatility and this class will help prepare any dancer for a professional career.

PRIMARY TAP 1
Tappers will start to learn a variety of basic tap combinations to enhance their sounds and rhythm.

ADVANCED TAP 3
At the advanced level, dancers will continue learning more advanced tap steps and tricks. Tappers will also start exploring improv and creating their own tap steps and combinations.
HIP HOP
INTERMEDIATE HIP HOP 2
While dancing to fun pop and hip hop music, dancers will learn fun combos, hip hop tricks and techniques. Many dancers build their confidence in this fun and relaxed class as this class encourages individuality and stepping out of your comfort zone.
MODERN
ADVANCED MODERN
We will investigate many styles of “Modern” Dance, from some of the investigative ideas of Isadora Duncan, Mary Wigman, Ruth St. Denis and Ted Shawn to more well-defined styles, aka. techniques, and more well-known names of José Limón, Lestor Horton, Martha Graham, and more. Class emphasis will be on technique and body mechanics so that the styes of Modern Dance can be performed by the dancers at their highest level! We will discuss past and recent past history and of course consider the trends of today’s dance world. We will also “play” with improvisation which is so important in today’s dance world.

At the Intermediate level, dancers will be focusing on technique to prepare them for the advanced level. Dancers will work on core strength, stamina, flexibility to ensure they have the foundation to be a strong dancer. This level will also begin improvisation.

Our beginner tappers will enjoy the different sounds their feet can make! Our focus for this level will include speed, rhythm and basic tap steps.
